Дэнни Роумэн - профессиональный полицейский, ведущий переговоры с разного рода маргиналами ради освобождения заложников. По совместительству, Дэнни возглавляет фонд нетрудоспособных полицейских. Его приятель по службе Нат уверяет Роумена в расхищении денежных средств из фонда, и готов привести доказательную базу условившись о месте встречи. Однако, преступник предусмотрел возможные последствия хищения финансов, и убил Ната. Придя на запланированную встречу, Роумэн обнаруживает друга мертвым. В попытке оказать первую помощь, на место убийства прибывает патруль полицейских. Не разобравшись в произошедшем, они поспешили обвинить Дэнни. Прокурор и судья тверды в намерениях вкатать приличный срок Роумэну, даже не имея прямых доказательств. На что готов пойти человек ради доказательства собственной невиновности?
