Главный герой картины провел в заключении четверть столетия. Еще в детстве он совершил преступление, за которое понес справедливое наказание. В застенках камеры Карл прочел Библию, после чего переосмыслил свою жизнь и покаялся. Освободившись, он быстро находит работу, и даже обзаводится другом. Несмотря на юный возраст Фрэнка, они прекрасно ладят. Карл видит в мальчишке себя в детстве. Он проявляют заботу к ребенку как к брату.
